Another Flood in Iowa

In 08 the crest was at the horizontal level on this window a couple feet up from the gas cans. This crest should be over two feet below this if there is no significant rainfall. Without the dike I would have around a foot of water in the house. Just came in a downgrade to 21.5 which is 3.2 feet less than 08.IMG_20160924_215534148.jpg

Mail box out by highway and tube dude with life jacket. Another foot and will be in shop.Just playing the waiting game for the next couple days and will start one of the pumps later. Don

No, it would have taken another 60 loads. Not enough time. Hauled right at 80 loads, 1,200-1,300 tons in 14 hours Friday and Saturday.

Any thought's on future flooding ,like a permanent dike with a single entrance that could be closed quickly with a couple load's of clay or moving on a hill?????:dunno2 Of course move dike out further away.

A very long night. 2" pump wouldn't keep up, switched to 3". Doing good. Son is bringing another 2" for backup. They raised crest and should happen soon. Will still need to pump for a day and a half after that.IMG_20160926_071345660_HDR.jpg

You mentioned sump ,would this be underflow filling that?????

Some leaking through bottom of dike and some up through driveway. Dug a small sump in the yard before putting in the dike to put the suction hoses in.

Time to move! :scared

That's what I said last time Bob, out voted on that. We are considering several options. I believe she has reconsidered.

Actually they are saying now 23 feet Tuesday around 3am down there. We crested here this am and Cedar Rapids is a flood day away.

Thanks Skip, we'll be fine if the pumps hold up. Running one, and two smaller ones for backup. Time for a nap, had an all nighter, too old for this shit.

Hard to tell how high water is to dike??? Hope you have a lot left .... Yes the third time would not be a charm for a flood!!!!! I'd make like a bird and get the flock out of there!!!!!!

Damn Phil, us guys have to stick together here. I couldn't find a dislike for your post. Eight years ago she got all new appliances, a new addition, new cupboards, and a completely remodeled house. What more could she want, she already has me....:winnerand I'm cooking her burgers on the Barbie tonite, decided to eat in. This is about as much fun as cleaning out a shop after 30+ years in business....eh Phil?IMG_20160926_114832026.jpg

The dike is 5 feet high. Right side in first two pics is upstream side.
