Owner claims it's a 409 but all the casting numbers had been smoothed off the block.

Actually Grub, I should have given photo credit to whoever took the shots above and now I forget whose shots they were. My eyesight has gotten to the point I have difficulty focusing the camera these days and I didn't take anything you see above (looking forward to cataract surgery in the near future).
