Well well well, look what the cat dragged in!!, HA! So we literally just got out of the snow and have been out in "Don's gone crazy" truck and Betsy, but working hard on another Healey!! Its the same model as the red one we did and drive all the time, 59 Austin Healey BN-7.. Their the only true two seaters and a relatively low production number, 2800, with a NECK BREAKING 124bhp!!!! HA!

Sounds like its not a lot of power, but let me tell you, its 2400 lbs and feels like your flying!

Anyway, heres a couple pics to get you up to speed and will be posting about the build and asking for some help... The first thing were a little stuck on, check out the SU's. We got a rebuild kit and started yesterday and noticed the diaphragm and needles are different than the ones that came out. Their HD6's and the needles that were in it are a touch longer and the diaphrams have a very different brass opening at the bottom. The moss website kinda sucks, its not showing the pics we need to confirm we have the right stuff. Would you just go with it?

So far, engine pulled, rebuilt with new pistons, head job, etc. We were just going to clean up the engine bay a bit until we had a call with DON who immediately pointed out we need to tear it all down to be happy, hahahha, and he was right... SOOOO, we did the total tear down this week and its going to the frame shop to be pulled today. Looks like it may have been raced or for sure hit something hard on the front left once in its life....

We put POR-15 all over the frame, so this is going to be a full mechanical rebuild, with paint... Not a total restoration.

Wow, doing a safety check on the red healey last week and came across this!!!! At first, you cant see it, but man o man it would have sucked if it broke!!

When i originally installed it, i didnt do it correctly and now fixed it.. That rubber line actually attaches to a small "snail looking" copper line, then to the caliper and omitted it the first go... On there now...pic1.JPGpic2.JPG

Make sure the jet hole in the diaphragm is the same size as the old one. I would use the original needle.

Thanks LA!

Just measured and the OD and ID are the same. The main diff is how the bottom looks. One has the extra holes and cant find on moss or another vendors site the same thing. BUT, i did buy them from Moss "in the day" and that part comes up with the first kind, single hole...Its kinda a kick in the "cherries" pullin them later but, they do "seem" better with the extra flow?

Remember, this comes from a crew that has NO idea what were talking about because we do everything, TWICE... :>)

Don't think the extra holes make any difference, the fuel is drawn up through the hole in the center around the needle.

What year did they end the two seater? Did they ever offer both in the same year?

1962, and actually think the number from 61-62 was just 133... The main bulk of the builds were 59-60...

Here's the Heritage Certificate for this one and love the fact safety was so important, NO seat-belts but a GREAT cigarette lighter and ashtray to go with a nice set of Roadspeed "tyres" :>) Remember, the fuel cap is directly behind you as you smoke your cigg......

You guys had massive stones in the day, we added seat belts to the red one Avery and I hit 80. It sounded magical, really comes in around 4k, and felt like we were test pilots that were gonna re-enter the atmosphere :>)... We run it all the time, think we did over 5k last year and quite a site... In fact, we wear atv helmets and go out in the winter, top down... It gives a totally new perspective......Imagine two guys, googles in a roadster thats kneecap high flying by you on the highway, hahahahaha. Needless to say, we get a lot of thumbs up and the "uhhhhhhhhh" look...

You can see the goggles Avery and I wear, our daughter Hannah is too cool...

Couple updates yesterday.. We sent off the "frame" to get pulled at the frame shop and Avery finished the re-assembly of the carbs (thanks LA!!).. Found a bug dent in one of the floats, so replacing that... I kinda believe the writers of some of these manuals had a grudge or ego, they just dont write in our language.

After that we got our first coat of paint on the engine..... Today, we will either take off the side plate of the gear box and see if we have any issues, or, will start on the panels. Lots of hammer dolly work on the "boot" (trunk), aluminum and full of dents....

When I bought my green 62, I drove it home. A day or 2 later, I discovered a leak in the front driver side brake hose, the black electric tape the previous owner had “fixed” it with had let go.

Wow man, imagine that, some ass-munch willing to put someone at risk for a $5 part..

We've been told all kinds of BS, like on that red one before we broke it down, the guy stood in front of me and my boys swearing it was rust/bondo free. It was a AZ car (cool trip, we met cecil!!).. Here's what we found all over the place....Deep BS...

We took the time to make it right, but man, my integrity aint worth selling...

Well, the only dimple's i know that are cute are the ones with long legs, ha!

We decided to start on the "boot" today and it was a little rough to begin with.. Its all aluminum, and used our trusty hammer dolly to get the larger stuff out and preserve material without using a file... Hopefully we can get it a bit flatter, then hit it with some primer...

Question, self etch on aluminum?

I like the two seaters with the 100-4 being my favorite. I had a 1955 100-4. British racing green. It was complete but in need of total restoration. Outriggers, rockers, bottom of fenders all half missing. I guess it would be called "typical" Healey rust. I was young and restoring it was way out of my budget. It is was last seen going to Holland. I would of put a small block in it though. I'm no purist!
