Any way you do it, whether it be to the headlights or the cowl, you are going to pick up heat especially with headers. The engine throws off heat and it gets absorbed by everything around it. However, it will still be cooler than sucking that hot engine compartment air into the engine. The faster you go and the more rpm you turn the cooler the charge will be. Both the cowl and headlights are both high pressure areas so I don't think you could go wrong with either one. This air box is a one off. My dad bought some of that green foam used in making dried flower arrangements, glued it together, then shaped it into what he wanted. Then gave that to a guy to reproduce it in steel. Last time out I went 10.44 at close to 130 mph so it must work ok!

Thanks for sharing! Cant tell what part i like more, the 10:44 or your dads chase for speed and ingenuity.:appl... We'll for sure post where we land, stay tuned, ha, get it, stay tuned :>)... Its early...

Well, slept on it, tossed and turned and decided to take the plunge... Decided on the FITECH 2x4 system and picked up that and the return line setup. For tank, were ordering from Tank Inc, its a pre-made tank with sending unit ready to go, so a simple swap, we hope. Wish we knew what were at now for power a tq to see the after, so ill call a couple local shops with dynos and see if i can get in asap...For the install, all parts should be here in a a couple days, so were doing it next week when I have a few days off..

SOOOO, big question, who wants to help? Here's the cool part, you can all be remote and do it with us on your computers, LIVE and in the room.

I showed Don and I tested a cool new way to interact called "Hangouts". Its a live video feed that lets everyone, up to 25 people be in the same room at the same time. The way it works, I send an email, you click on it and you can instantly see me live in the garage. We talk and communicate just the same as if we were in the flesh. For Don, he "hungout" with me as I did the valves for betsy and could see and help with the entire deal. I moved my laptop that has a camera in the engine bay and he could see as good if not better than in the flesh.

If you dont have a camera, thats fine too. You will still see me and hear as long as you have speakers and a mic.. I really think its the way to go and with all you here, love to see group meetings and ideas exchanged in realtime, in person. Would help us a TON as we do things.

We expect the parts to be here in two days, so Ill post, and if anyone has time and wants to :hangout" with me and Avery when we do the install, post here. As we get closer to Tues, wens next week, we should be ready and can do it. For us personally, love to just hangout with you guys as you do your tinkering and learn, so ping anytime and happy to walk you through how it works. Also, if anyone has time to help us search a ground issue on the truck, might save me some sanity.. You can literally see what im doing and save me some fuses :winner

Ill start another thread and explain it better if anyone thinks its worth it.

Well,it appears that the efi is going to be Fast EZ2.0 instead of the FiTech. I look forward to the learning experaince. Right now I suffer from the Sgt.Shultz syndrome;"I know nothing"!:doh The new stroker for the truck is going to be injected anyway,

HA! Thats right. We ordered the Fitech, called Carl with our enthusiasm about the deal and were told to reverse course. He has a great tuner in the area with vast knowledge and proclaimed the FAST SPortsman EFI 2.0 is the way to go if you want total control. Having said that, Yellow Wagon is correct and we saw the same doing the research, the FITECH is a great system, self tuning, easy, and would meet all our needs. BUT, it doesnt have all the bells and whistles for tuning capabilities that we, folks on this forum may demand in the long run. FAST is not going to be as simple as the FITECH in the beginning, but in the end, with some sweat, worth it.

Something LA may like :>)....

SO, I called and canceled my order with Jegs just in time and Carl is working now to source us the other unit. He may even be able to save us a few clams along the way, so win win...

WE will for sure capture the entire process and document it for anyone else going this direction.

Update.

We have the Tanks inc EFI tank in hand, internal pump, and today should receive the return lines, fittings, and regulator. We purchased all the items from Tanks inc and the links below in case someone else heads down this path.

We also ordered the FAST Sportsman EFI setup from Carl. Not sure when they arrive, but he sent along his mule intake to see if we can fit it on Betsy and have hood clearance. Hearing his intake is 40+-HP gains over our 881, and would be the right time to test for it. As soon as we have it and the throttle bodies here, well mock and take pics...

Still waiting for the EFI harness from Comp and couldnt take it anymore!! Took an opportunity to cruise in a tiny weather window. Was super cold, like 5 degrees and she LOVED the cold air. Ran super smooth on race fuel, peoples heads were a snappin, just love it! When she came home i had to wash off the road salt but well worth getting out to listen to the music.

We do have some tweaking to do, steering super sloppy loose on the highway, especially when you let off the gas, wants to fishtail. Speedo doesnt work, and finally, need to add the "T" on the oil pickup so i can turn the idiot light off and still watch psi.. Other than that and cant find a lot to listen too on the AM stations, shes PERFECT!! :>)

Hi Guys!!!

Finally have our parts and started the conversion to efi. Went with the dual 4150 style setup from FAST with the Sportsman XFI. Got everything laid out today and assembled the tank. What a pain just installing the sending unit and pump to the tank. It didnt come with gaskets of nuts and lining up with the holes proved impossible. Had to reem out the holes a bit but after some persuasion, we made fast friends.

Nice looking tank! Could even use another regulator for carbs I bet!

Wow, that tank is smooth and clean for sure.. Yup, got the edlebrock regulator so tomorrow should get a head start on installing the tank, running the return and hopefully making it all look good.. Biggest worry, where to mount the ignition box and efi... Ill post tomorrow...

I think you should look at your fuel pump mount again.
The zip tie and foam just may bite you in the but down the road.
Some factory have foam around the in tank pump but not mounting to it.

I thought the same thing!! I kinda sat there for a bit trying to figure out what to do, was worried about that foam coming apart in little pieces but went with what they had in their instructions since i dont know much better. Hope it ends up being ok, well see. Today we'll start running our plumbing, so the return, mount the regulator, filter and check back. If you guys think the foam is extra risk, no sweat i can pull it off before we mount the tank.

Let me know, good catch..

No way that foam is going to survive swimming in ethanol. The zip ties will get brittle and crack also

So we made a bit more progress yesterday, drained the tank with our siphon, pulled the old one and getting ready to install the new. The filler neck rubber was toast so replaced that. Now it's a matter of measuring the lengths of efi return line we need to connect and replace all the spots with old fuel line. We did run 3/8ths hard line, but theres a piece where the tank connects to it, in the middle of the car about a foot, and finally from the hardline to the fuel pump. All those need replacement to high pressure line....

Also need to re-make the ground and sending that connected to the old tank. Way easier to cut and drop the old tank than fiddle with it above our heads. Here's a few pics, tough without a lift...

Now the one thing were confused on is how to run power to the new pump. The instructions of the Sportsman call for a $127 fuel dongle below, but when i called their tech support (slow as shit) yesterday, the guy said i could pull from the GREEN single fuel ground on the harness and plug that into a relay. The relay would be for switched power. Can someone help us figure that part out?? Below is the schematic...

So in my hand is the connectors with the existing harness and below is the schematic of what the separate $127 harness contains. The guy said the cheaper way is to buy a relay and use the single lt green wire thats in my hand to make it all work.

For those looking to maybe use Carl's Intake on a 62, heres a pic of the height differences Its about 1 1/4th inch higher than an 881, so for us a bit too tall...
