35-40 years ago I was sitting at my shop desk taking a break. I was thinking that I had a 62 and a 64 and maybe I should find a 63. I wondered what happens to Smith's old race car.
The phone rings. It was a racing buddy from the same town Smith was from.
Smith had borrowed some money from his employer and put the car up for collateral. Smith quit his job and just flipped him the title for the car and walked out. The employer wanted to get the car gone and get his money back.
$600 and a 150 mile round trip I had a 63.
It has a 9.3 Pontiac rear spool and axles, told 5.14 gears. 90/10 shocks. Otherwise stripped out.
Tacky body work and a weak floor I just figured I bought some parts and parked it to the side.
Lately I don't see much better out there for cheap so I might bring it in and fix it.
Thinking 409 with 3.76 crank. I bought Bryan Fugates cam and have a header kit from show-cars.
