Edelbrock Heads

I just finished my first set of Edelbrock 409 cylinder heads. I wanted to share the results and determine if there is a market for a CNC version of this design.

Listed below are the airflow numbers:

Lift Intake Exhaust

.100 86cfm 73cfm
.200 178cfm 121cfm
.300 245cfm 161cfm
.400 283cfm 204cfm
.500 312cfm 242cfm
.600 315cfm 260cfm
.700 310cfm 272cfm

The test was conducted on a Saenz J-600 flow bench using Audie Technology Flow Pro software. The bore size was 4.320" @28".

Thanks.

IN / EX
.100 - 101 / 73
.200 - 178 / 124
.300 - 251 / 171
.400 - 303 / 201

Prices start at $3,495.00 ready to bolt on. I can see these heads making over 700 HP on a well prepared 409 style engine.

My BWR non raised port heads were ported by John walden and his flow numbers are right in line with these. I am 359 @700 on the intake. i know that flow benches and the results from them can differ.

Flow benches can be very different. I've tested the same heads on my bench along with Mondello's and they are within 2%.

My question is, what does a well ported set of iron heads flow?

Thanks.

Top #s are race port, bottom #s are mild port/cleanup on the heads. If Bob sees this post he may want to critique these #s. These are #s that he sent me regarding my heads.

Calvin I think I have a sheet somewhere where we flowed some older iron heads that had someone do some clean up 40 years ago. I'll try and dig them out.

I,ve had 6 or 7 shops get more than 350 cfm from my heads. Prices for porting have come down. Early jobs were more like R&D. A full race port can be had for $800-$1000.Heads will hover a around $2K

Race springs and titanium valve and custom part will jack that up.

Tha most I've heard anyone get from the E heads is 330. That will probably support a motor to give you whiplash. My heads may come closer to snapping your neck.

Ray the max # of 360 would be for the standard 690 port. Dave Mills and Fast Fred on the forum have obtained #'s like that. Mike Starke @ CFM in Indy did the first set for us. He got about 363. He expected to get 15-20 more from the raised port. But remember. A bigger flow # doesn't always make more power. Bob
