No, 390-401. 406s came out in 1962.Is that a 406 Jody?

That's not nice!!! LOL You know I had a Pontiac guy argue with me that no Fords ever used this scoop.... I have many photos from 61 of Fords running these scoops. Several of the photos are from Indy when they were running OS/S.WOW, A FORD WITH A PONTIAC SCOOP

I have one of those Ford truck scoops and it was painted Ford Blue with a bit of patina.
It's now Chevy Orange . Thought it might look good on the '61 Bonneville project...
Yeah want close photos of that deal!Tom,
You have your work cut out to make that scoop fit a 61 Pontiac hood
Originally the scoop was on the Ford Super Duty trucks. Everybody after that stole it from Ford. Now that's funny right there
Teardrop hood scoop wasn't available until very late 1963 when the Thunderbolts were built. Even some of the first 11 T-bolts did not have a teardrop hood, they had a "cloverleaf" style bump on the hood. Here is two of many 1961 Fords I have photos of with these scoops. Pontiac didn't use them until 1962.Jody,
I would have to agree with the guy that said he never saw one on a Ford (except for the Ford truck). I think yours is the only one I ever saw, the Fords around here all had that teardrop bubble on the hood with the openings in the back. In 1963 I purchased a 63 Impala SS 409/400 and I went straight to the local Ford dealer and ordered one of the scoops. As you know it's a 2 piece deal, scoop and separate grille and the grille was available in primer or chrome. I sprung for the chrome grille and I remember the whole damn thing was about 30 bucks. BTW, most of the Pontiac guys never used the grille, just the scoop. I always thought they looked good on a 62 Impala
No, Dave Strickler's scoop isn't the Ford truck scoop. The Starliner in the other lane has the truck scoop. Here are a couple more from '61 of Fords with the SD scoop. The Grumps home made scoop on the white hood wasn't pretty but it sure worked. There was a green hood on the 61 first. Have a look in the book Gumpy's Toys on pages 16 and 19, tell me that's not the Ford scoop!!
You guys are correct, that scoop is not at home on the 1961 Pontiac hood. Must have been thinking of them on a 1962 Pontiac?
